Aceh, located in northern Sumatra, is Indonesia’s largest Arabica coffee producer, famous for its Gayo Coffee. Introduced during Dutch occupation in the early 1900s, coffee farming flourished in the highlands of Central Aceh, Bener Meriah, and Gayo Lues. Gayo beans are cultivated around Lake Laut Tawar on small, family-owned farms at 1,000-1,500 meters altitude, with harvests in April-July and October-January. Known for its aroma and rich flavor, Gayo Coffee is highly regarded worldwide.
